User ability to control Forum Home List
 
Any idea if there is a hack that gives the users the ability, in their User CP, to determine the categories that are listed on the forum home page?

Yup. There is.

I was gonna leave it at that lol, but I'd prolly get yelled at. I can't remember the exact name, but doing a search may help. I have it installed - it allows members to chose what forums they can see and completely removes the forums they don't. You can set this up for categories me thinks.
