DownloadsII vs. Links & Downloads Manager

Both of these have around 500 installs and pretty heavy discussions, so I'm sure both are quality mods.

But can anyone offer their opinions on the basic differences between the two? Is one better suited to a particular purpose and the other is not?

I'm brand new to vBulletin and can't readily make my own assessment. I also haven't found good working demos of each that don't require logging into someone's site.

Thanks.

Both are quality modifications, however, they each more or cater to a different groups:

L&D Manager: Much more refined. More options than I care to remember. You can tweak just about everything. But, for many, it's just too much at once.

DownloadsII: Programming wise, it's a little rough. Not too many options. Very functional, simple and easy to use. Templates are a bit sloppy, IMHO.

Give them both a try, see which fits you the most.

I'll have to agree. LDM has WAY too many options. I didn't even know what half of them should be and the documentation is just not documented well enough for those of us who don't know what all of those options are for.

Yeah, I'm a complete noob when it comes to PHP and such, so any mods need to be pretty straightforward and simple. I was concerned that LDM might be too complicated for me.

I don't need anything too complicated. I have about 20 files that I want to host for download and want them to be displayed in an elegant way with a description and possibly screenshot for each. Organized in 4 categories. Pretty basic. Over time the downloads will grow, but it will take a long time before it even doubles.

Any further advice (or if there are other solutions for this that are a better fit) please post.

Thanks so far!
:)

I've just installed DownloadsII and am so far very happy with it.

It's super easy to install and there's just enough customization in it for those of us who don't know all of the ins and outs of this stuff.
