How to limit new user posts for 24 hours

I'm running a 3.6.x board and need to be able to limit new user posts for a specific amount of time, preferably 24 hours. This would be preferred over approving each account manually. I did a search for this hack but came up empty. If someone could please point me in the right direction, I'd most appreciate it.
