Import users

I'm looking for a plugin that'll help me import an email text file list and assign to each email a random username/pass.

Is this possible?

i doubt it, im looking for this too but it won't happen.. if any coder can do this id be happy to give them a donation for it.

And also is it possible to import a phpbb database to vb BUT if the usernames are identical (like about 10 users) then vb will change their username to lets say.. username1 (by adding a figure at the end)?? Could this be done? As i don't want to overwrite any users that have the exact same username.

You could use a spreadsheet program for example to generate the usernames, then export as CSV file and use ImpEx to import the list.

ImpEx will not overwrite user, but will merge them if both the username and the email is identical.

If 2 members have the same name, but different email address, then the 2nd user will be named Imported_Username

You mean like excel?
How would I be able to generate usernames and password through excel?

Did you recount everything after the import? If not scroll down to the bottom of your admin menu and choose "Update Counts" or something like that (tired right now LOL), then just go through the list and recount everything in the forums.

No, it proper spoilt it.. iv lost 1 whole years worth of posts / threads / members..

just restored an old backup from august.. and lost 4000 members!

It said REDO MODULE on all the lists.. i clicked it for users and corrupted the whole database.

You don't redo it unless there was a major problem. :( Ok does your host have a recnet backup of your page/forums? Alot of times your host will keep a backup of this. Ask your host to Restore the latest backup on your forum. Ask them to restore you MySQL database or what ever database you are currently using. Hopefully they can restore it for you. Were you initially installing a new version of vb when this happened?

ahhh its too late now. my host restored a latest backup on their server but it wasnt a full backup. they said it was but i know it wasn't.. it still showed the corrupted database. we had many arguments over it.

iv restored a database that is 8 months old now :( and iv lost soo much data. im never doing this again, id rather pay a professional to do this!

Any ideas on importing email addresses and get the system to generate a username and password for the account??
