Banned on registration

What would cause lifetime banning upon new user registration? The forum was set for email verification and image verification a week ago to try and stop spam posting. Now any user awaiting email conformation receives a lifetime ban.

When I goto ACP and view banned members there is a list of lifetime bans but they have not been banned by a staff member. It appeas they have banned themselves ???

eg:

user: example_user
banned by: example_user
banned on: 3/23/07
ban period: permanent
ban will be lifted: never
ban time remaining: forever

I have reverted the settings back to no image or email verification and lifted all bans but the problem is still there. I have checked in vb options > banning options and everything is fine. There are no IP's banned. I have also checked the usergroups and everything looks fine there as well.

What would cause this and how can I correct it?

Thank you for your time.

I want to say I remember a hack that had this sort of result upon removal.... Can't remember which though. You might want to check any installed products you may have.

Check that you don't have your Awaiting Email Confirmation usergroup set to be abanned usergroup. ;)

Thank you fo the replies. The awaiting email usergroup is not set as a banned group and th banned list grows per visit.

did u import from phpbb using impex ? or is it a new forum ?

if u did use impex u need to deleted the usergroup that is creates

imported active members i think, once u delete the usergroup move them to the registered user group to be able to login with all the current details

I just fixed a board that had this problem. I wish I could remember what it was. It was an old mod that caused problems after a vBulletin upgrade. Turn off your mods one by one and see if that fixes it.
