vb.org Archive - New Post Notifications Elsewhere on Page?

I have a bunch of forums/categorys on my board... Typically you have the post notification icon within the forum(s):

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2007/03/11.gif New Posts
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2007/03/12.gif No New Posts

Lets say I want an icon for a specific forum to show up elsewhere on the page. Is there a way to HTML code that icon to work the same way somewhere else on the page?

Here is a simple example... Someone makes a new post in the Southern Maryland child forum. I want an icon elsewhere on the page to change alerting there has been a new post in the "Maryland & DC" forum.

So is there no simple line of code that will do this?
