Different post icons and smiles for each style. How?

I have 3 skins at my vBulletin 3.6.4 forum:

- default vBulletin skin
- customskin1
- customskin2

customskin1 and customskin2 have modified post icons and smiles, however, vBulletin always shows post icons and smiles from /images/icons/ and /images/smiles/ folders, which have default images.

How do I set vBulletin to show custom icons from /customskin1/icons/, /customskin2/icons/ and smiles from /customskin1/smiles/, /customskin2/smiles/ folders when user chooses a non-default skin?

Thanks in advance! :D

I'd appreciate if someone suggests such a plugin.

Of course, this is possible - no plug ins or file mods required.

At the very bottom of your "all style options" page for each style (where you input the css values, etc) you'll see a box titled "Replacements Variables". Click "Add new replacement variable", select the style you want different images to show in. In the Search for Text box type in the original url, eg /images/icons and in the Replace with Text box type in the new url to the images, for example /newstyle/images/icons

You can do this with smilies too. Get stuck, give me a yell. Over on GFXStyles, we do this by default on all our styles.

One more thing, if you're going to do this for smilies, you must ensure that your replacement images are saved with the same file names as the defaults.

Thanks, Azhrialilu. It worked like a charm. :D

You're more than welcome ;)

I tried this, and now style-specific icons are on styles other than the one I chose. I tried to change them back using the replacement variable on the style where I didn't want them - they're still there. I'm afraid to mess with it anymore. Does anybody have any idea why it would replace words in a different style? The target style was not a child style.

Azhrialilu 03-15-2007 07:17 AM

It shouldn't. Where did you make the changes?

odie3 03-27-2007 12:29 AM

man, I think I want to do this but that replacement thing scares me... I currently have vB theme and a Black/Gold theme and I would like to separate the icons at least [and perhaps the smilies too.

what if I mess up and want to change back? say i mess up?

Well, I tried it and it was easy to revert [delete] my change. Which is good cause it did not work...
