Got an odd one

Hopefully this won't be confusing. One one of the BBS's I frequent he has it setup to when {username} is in the thread it brings who ever user name it is. For instance I am logged in and in the title or thread instead of {username} it will actually say my name(or who ever in loggeded in and reading the thread). I have been trying to figure this out and I am bloody stumped...
