Scared to upgrade

everytime i upgrade my forum to the next version... i lose everything... i follow the instructions to the letter.... and still lose....

vbulletin wont help because i have hacks installed... which is understandable...

who can help TheBlackPoet??!!!!

I can, its pretty simple and pain free. What version are you going from and upgrading to?

i only install hacks that don't edit the main vb .php files, that way upgrade is a lot easier.

you shouldn't have a problem ... but, you will still have to upgrade any custom styles/templates that you may have

save a backup before proceeding

Close forums
backup all current files
backup database
backup database
backup database
upload new files
run upgrade.php script

Enjoy.

delete install script
check forums
turn on plug-ins
check for plug-in compatibility and/or updates
update plug-ins and/or disable incompatible versions
check forums
re-open forums

enjoy

TheBlackPoet, it's really very easy although nerve racking the first time. I like to dis-able the forum and run repair/optimize database until it's clean, usually twice. Then make my back-up copy of it. I then create a second database on my server (the just in case measure). Then I run the update. Knock on wood I haven't had a problem yet. I understand your apprehension though. I took a look at your forum. It looks like you have a few hacks and plug-ins running there. Plus a custom skin. My advice it to do all of your homework first and make sure that everything that you have running now has been updated to 3.6.4 Then get all of that ready for your update.
