My new site is still work in progress, so i thought it better to get you all to review the design for me now rather than wait until its finished.

any criticism welcome

Ack...had a good review written up and lost it when I left work....Oh well, just have to write it again ;)

I love the logo, it made me chuckle when I first saw the portal page.

You have two login boxes very close to each other, get rid of the one in the block and stick with the other. That space can be better utilized for advertising or for a welcome message.

The news post has a great blurb about the site, however as news is added it will most likely fall off of the portal. Use the best part of this to make a welcome message that will be visible to guests. It will also help with getting keywords associated to your site.

The rest of the portal looks a bit stock. The search on the left column can be dropped since you already have a search area.

I am getting a Javascript error on your front page as well. Using IE6.0 from my work computer.

The forum home looks very good, though it does not look like a forum at first look. However once you drill deeper it loses the unique look and becomes a stock vB install with some color changes. The buttons and icons should be updated to fit in with the rest of the site.

So far it looks very well done. It still needs some work, but as you said it is a work in progress. Great job :)

Thanks for your comments Calash, im going onto the site now to update the suggestions you have made. The buttons are high priority aswell as the icons.

can you expand a little on the javascript error, i use firefox and have never noticed anything.

Thanks

Firefox is also seeing the errors, but it does not give a visual warning unless you go into the error console.

Code:

Error: ajax_showTooltip is not defined
Source File: http://www.donkproject.net/index.php
Line: 1

Several of these on the portal page.

This is in both IE6 and Firefox 2.0.0.1

The logo looks great - excitement, wide, crazy, and fun.
However, the huge icon images (that you use throughout the site) does not match the message that your logo is trying to convey.

it's confusing the heck out of me

Also, you have huge icons throughout the site but small font-size. What's more important - the icons or the message?

I tried with larger a larger font princeton but it didnt look right, as for the icons they're my way of moving away from the standard VB theme/forum look.

nothing wrong with the icons; nothing wrong with the header
however, together they clash - doesn't fit with each other
