a system to decrease poor grammar
 

I'm getting a bit fed up with users who can't spell on my forums, i was wondering if anyone has thought of making a plugin that does the following:

1) a system a little like reputation but based on grammar, the aim would be to try embarress or name and shame those who can't be bothered to post using decent grammar, then maybe they will loose the l33t slang habbit .

Any thoughts?

If it detracts from your community that much your best bet is to ban them or otherwise punish them. You're probably not going to be able to change the way they communicate with an add-on.

If you want to give it a shot you could always rename "Reputation" to "Grammar Level" and use that. Or put a "Grammar Disaster" button on each post that people could click. You could use the Post Groan hack for this.

One solution I've used is taken some of the most common grammar/spelling mistakes and created custom replacements.

ie. teh = the, u = you, ur = your (sometimes, this should be you're -- but I can live with that)

It's not perfect, but it helps slightly.

What if you accidentally spell a word un correct?
It will do the same thing..
I sometimes miss spell

i think the infraction system might work for this actually, gonna have a fiddle.

they seem to have some nice little mods on there, are they custom made? i like the system where you can award a user from a choice of about 20 different awards for posts, it's like a really friendly version of the reputation system!

Yeah he made it himself. I wouldn't expect him to share them. He's the creator of the famous Garry's Mod series.

This is precisely what I'm looking for too... I think there's a demand for it, if someone could create a mod. Alas that I don't have the skill for it myself. :(
