Search engine conditions

What does this do?

<if condition="$show['spider']"><phrase 1="$userinfo[spider]">$vbphrase[x_spider]</phrase><else />$userinfo[musername]</if>

How does it recognize the spider? Can you change pages for the spider specifically, for example, display user i's verses names targetted to spiders?
