Can someone point me to the porting of old hacks rules?

i'm sure i saw a thread here once before about when it's acceptible to port an older hack in which has been abandoned... i can't find it. i've replied in the threads and PM'd the coder without success. this coder has been online and viewing the thread and read my PM's. so when is it ok do take over the port or is it just not allowed at all?

ask the creator of the hack first

it's not allowed at all unless the coder gives you permission

i already mentioned that the creator of the hack has not responded to my PM's or in his thread.

If you don't have permission, and you can't get permission, then you DON'T HAVE PERMISSION.

If you completely rewrite a mod then you can effectivly port it, what you cannot do (without permission of the original author) is take an existing mod and reuse the code to port it.
