Alter the value of the $vboptions variable?

How can I change the contents of the
$vboptions[forumhome]
variable, to trim the /index.php off the end of the URL without modifying the templates?

This is still bugging me... and maybe if I could repost this thread, I'd change the title to: "how can you set/change template variable from a plugin?" So.... does anyone have an answer to this new question?
