Every forum has its own icon

Consider this forum or this one.

Every forum has its own image on the left. I want the same effect, replacing the new/old icons with custom images.

What's the easiest way to achieve this? Are there any known hacks for this? I guess I could look around in the code and manually do this: Where exactly would I look?
