Great promotional idea! Points / rep for distributing forum URL!

I was thinking about an addon which would give users their own specific URL, i.e.

http://www.forum.com/refer.php?userid=123123

You would then encourage users to post that URL on their blogs, MySpace pages, etc. to promote your forum.

As an incentive to users, each unique click (determined by unique IP, and even a small cookie check) would give them a certain number of points (i.e. for vbbux) or reputation. You could even specify which user table column to add points to for maximum compatibility. This would refresh at a configurable time interval, say 24 hours or 7 days.

I think this would be a good idea to encourage users to promote your forum and increase its online presence, and would definitely be more effective than only giving out rewards for referral registrations.

There is already a vb default option to do this

however i think it should tell them there referal link when they register

Are you sure? Somehow I think it only rewards users for new registrations and you can't specify if they get points / rep.
