How much can the forum handle

now i have a crazy idea, it is basically gona be a hit or miss. So i was wondering if i needed to support 10,000+ users on a forum at once. What is the best way i should handle this.

Actually can somone give me what i would need. THe Amount of RAM, Disk Space etc..

Simply build a cluster of a couple http-dedicated machines with a master-slave mysql (or even a cluster of mysql machines), put there at least 100Mbps pipe and voilla! :)

I think somebody from the vB team said that vB gets very very slow with many many forums because it's not optimized for that. Can't find the post right now.
