How do I create my own mods? any tutorial to get me started?

hi guys

i have an extension idea for my forum but there is no mod that provides the features I'm looking for and besides I'd like to build it the exact way on my mind... how do i get started with creating mods or making modifications to vbulletin? any good tutorials or articles that can help me get started?

thanks :)

I know php and mysql well enough...
i just want to understand how vbulletin works so that i can easily modify vbulletin the correct way and create a mod similar to the ones in the mod section
