Hooking into login proccess
 

Well, I'd ideally like to use plugins and hook into vB's login and registration.

Basically what I need to happen is before a person is logged into the forum, it needs to check another database with a user and password if the user and password exists, it'll "register" that user on vB. If The user is not found, it'll just send them back to the vB main page, telling them to register.

I already know what some of the developers out there are thinking, this is not possible due to password hashes and such, I say ignore that factor (humor me please), and at least point me in the direction upon how it can be done, either what hook to use to create a Plugin, or what PHP files I can look into.

The second part of this Plugin / modification would be to hook into vB's registration and add the user to the secondary database, however due to the password hashing this is a bit more complicated then it might be worth.

Anyway, any help on how either of these two hooks, or sections of the code works would be appreciated. Try to take it easy on me, I've spent some time looking at some hooking options, but didn't have much luck finding one that would quite do this sort of thing.
