Question for English Buffs
I'm writing a college essay about my home town, and was wondering if an essay could include a narrative told by a fictional character based on factual statements. For example, a Homeless guy living in my neighborhood, and his descriptions of the surroundings which actually do exist and I see every day.
Thanks :] |
I suppose that'd be more up to the professor of the class than the English language itself :D
It usually depends on the assignment and the writing style the professor is looking for specifically. While there are many great ways to spruce up a boring old essay (and I'd say that's pretty creative - good job :D), they may not always be what is expected, and could just fall upon deaf ears. Scrutinize carefully the assignment, or talk to your professor/TA. I'm sure they'll be happy to provide their opinion. |
Thanks Aken, but it's due in the morning lol :S I'm just gunna stick to the old fashioned essay layout and ask about it for next time :)

Ahh procrastination! It was my best friend during school, when I actually attended :p
I guess then you'll just have to use your best judgement. I can recall different assignments that would've either approved or discouraged such creative writing (for example, a persuasive/argumentative essay would not want fictual writing). From the sounds of it, I don't think this is the case for your topic, and that it would be a good addition. But alas, I am not in your class, so I can't say for sure. :) Good luck either way! Hope you get a good grade. Edit: Just saw you're in the Bay Area as well. I lived in the East Bay for about six months last year! |
