Putting "new posts" in the footer
 
Ive already figured out how to put the icon there and make it functional, but how/what do I do to change the button so it fits in?

change the class from vbmenu_control to tfoot :)

Bold the text, and you've got it. You might want to stick a - before it and pop a nowrap in there too to keep it on one line, but those are just minor tweaks.
