A conference for those interested in online communities

Is anywhere here interested in online communities? :)

I've been wanting someone to put on a conference about online communities for quite some time now. And I'm excited to say that has finally come to fruition. Community Next is being held February 10th, 2007 at Stanford University; this is going to be one worth attending. My company will be there along with quite a few other notables. While $195.00 may seem a little steep for some, please think about joining us. We need more forum owners attending so we can start to put forum-based communities back on the map. If you decide to attend, PM me and introduce yourself so we can be sure to meet up and you can buy me a drink ;)

Regarding the conference:

Community Next 2007

With so many communities popping up on the web, we felt it is important to bring it all together. We have created the conference for online communities and social networks. Welcome to Community Next.

Objectives of Conference

1. Connect people building online communities
2. Educate on how to make a successful online community / social network
3. Have fun

Where is the event?

Annenberg Auditorium
Stanford University, California

What will you learn?

• How did different online communities grow, get initial traction and what viral growth tactics worked?
• Why did some social networks succeed while others have failed?
• What are the right tools to build and scale your social network?
• Where is the revenue going to come from?
• What is the future for online communities?

I think it's a great Idea David and I would love to attend, unfortunately it's on the other side of the country from me thus making it cost-ineffective.

David,

Sounds like it'll be an interesting event to attend but, alas, I'm also on the East Coast. Suggest EC for next year's event. ;)

After it ends will any of the information presented be available online?

Thats just up the road from me. However, since I have never heard of any of the speakers it would probably bore me to death.

Everyone knows WW3 will end our fun times with the Internet, so why think about the future?

I find this a great idea and would have been fully prepared to attend, though I would be flying in from Germany.

However, it being January and the conference being in February means it's too short notice for me; impossible to arrange things in such a short time.

I'd be surprised if they didn't make the information available. A lot of online media companies ranging from techcrunch to mashable and other bloggers will be covering the event. I'll probably be doing a writeup of my own depending on time constraints.

It's not about the speakers in my opinion (though i'm very interested in a few of them). It's more about networking with those in the industry. You're a good coder with a lot of insight into communities. The potential payoff for someone with your skillset would be well worth the $195.00 in my opinion.

This is very true...it's seldom one gets an opportunity to do so face to face in this industry and it can be invaluable.

I'd love to go but I'm also on the east coast. If they ever have on of these on my side of the country let me know. ;)

Have to be in Redmond, WA. on Feb. 7TH for a week so as much as I would like to be there it just will not be possible.
Maybe next year.
