Email Notice of New Registrants
I am configured to receive an email each time a user registers. This has saved grief several times because of bots or spammers and the way they register.
This standard email includes their IP number. Would it be a template mod or something major to have it also include the ISP lookup for that IP number? Even greater would be the registered location of that ISP's domain. In other words, If they give their address as Arizona, but their ISP is in Nigeria, the alarm goes off! ==================================== There is a new user, soandso at My Board Name To view their profile, go here: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/member.php?u=8238 Email Address : soandso@cox.net Birthday : Referrer: N/A IP Address: xx.98.xxx.155 Location : Tempe, Az. USA Interests : stuff Referral : Google |
Here is what I changed mine to. If anything looks odd I click on the IP whois link and check the location. If it doesn't match what they choose or if it says Nigeria I simply click the other link and ban the username.
