Why even own a desktop computer?
 

I used to be one of those nerds with 3 computer screen and 50 boxes of motherboards and processors and my custom build tower. Fully modded right.

About two years ago now I lost my job and my tower broke. No money to buy a new CPU and I had just bought an HP Laptop.

To be honest, I eventually sold every piece of hardware and I live by the fullsize desktop replacement laptop.

It's so handy. And I just love it, and nothing every breaks or fails. I already upgraded the memory to a happy size, and this HP model has dual hard drive slots that I filled with two 250 gig drives.

So, when ever I go to a friends house or my parents and use thier desktop, it seems so 1999 to me.

As technology improves, processors get faster, I think more and more people are moving towards mobile anyways.

As far as graphic design goes, the small screen is a pain in the behind. Laptops are much more expensive than a desktop of equivalent performance and you may think that nothing breaks but they break as much if not more than desktops (heat is much more of an issue in laptops, if nothing else). You have less upgradability than you do with desktops and performance, while always improving, is not quite on par with desktop systems.

Performance on a budget - For the price you of a high end laptop, you can usually build at least two similarly configured or better desktop PC's. Plus, with desktops you allow yourself room to upgrade. With laptops, you can usually only upgrade a bare minimum of things like your memory and hard drives.

I made the same switch a few years back and haven't owned a desktop since. Love the portability.

Yeah I agree with that.

I have to disagree with that statement. I haven't had any problems, that can go along with how you handle and treat your equipment. When I used to build my own stuff would always break. Maybe it's just becuase I'm not opening the laptop up all the time and adding and over clocking, etc. I don't have any issues with heat.

I also design and code websites on mine while being on the go, but when I home I have a dock to plug into a 27 inch flat screen.

I should mention I dont' have the normal 15 inch, I have a dv9000t with 17inch and full size keyboard.

I'd have to debate that too. You could build a similar for cheaper maybe, not better for cheaper. Better equals more money in the desktop world becuase you can build more than a laptop allows room for.

However, all your desktops are still limited to being used in one place. Mobility is priceless.

I enjoy the best of both worlds. lol If I had to choose, I would likely stick with my desktop. I use it far more often and when I leave the house, it is normally to give me a break from the computer in the first place. (The laptop is great for when I am travelling!)

Look laptops are easy to use but the performance is not as great as having a static pc.

When I get older, and go to college, I'll live on a laptop (probably a MacBook). Than once I get an apartment and things afterwards, especially when I get off the ground money wise, I'll buy another iMac. So I can have the connivence of a portable system but have the stability and accessibility of desktop (constantly charged for one thing) and have a portable computer for other things. Advantages of both I think.
