Multiple domain bridging... Custom engine + vB
 

Well I'm currently in the process of writing a new site, and a few of the features I want require modifications to the vBulletin database*, and I was wondering - whats the best way to do this? I can't just include global.php, since the site is on a completely separate domain (But same server) as my forums. And while I could change permissions for the site's user, I would rather not as its a possible vulnerability.
(HOWEVER! I have absolutely no problem with connecting to the vBulletin database from the site... Or moving key files to the other domain)

*Modifications (Some of them at least) :

• Create new forums
• Assign moderators to forums
• Change settings, description, etc. of forums
• Check a hidden profile entry against a local db (For user confirmation... I don't want a shared userdb)

I hate bumping but I honestly don't want to spend a week figuring out the best way to do this.

So you want to have one vb forum for multiple sites and allow each site to be unique in it's appearance/permissions?

You are not very clear in your original post on your intentions or exactly what you want.

Err... No...

Basically I have a site, and my forums... Both are on separate domains (Lets say site.com and forums.com), and site.com needs to be able to create a new forum on forums.com, but only under special circumstances set by site.com (Hince the logic behind putting it on the site and not the forums).
I also need to add moderators to said forums, and do a few other basic things like check forums.com's user table for a custom profile entry (A 'site confirmation'), so that users have to manually confirm themselves.

A small amount of site.com's allure is the fact it flawlessly (At least to the user) is merged into forums.com, but not in such a way that a user is automatically registered on site.com if they're on forums.com, or vice versa (For very complicated and long winded reasons which I'm not about to explain here, I don't want to share the user database between the site and the forums). Or the fact that the styles are able to be (And will be) completely different.

Another bonus to site.com's existence, is the fact my users are able to have their own forum on forums.com, but only if they're active enough, and meet other criteria that may change in the future... Something a module/hack on forums.com wouldn't be able to do (Safely/quickly).

Oh come on, someone must know
