Contact Details Question

Hi, All,

The "Contact Us" link in my forums only sends an email to me. How can I set this to have email sent to another admin, too?

In the Contact Details in the VBulletin options, the "contact us link" setting is sendmessage.php. I realize I can change that to "mailto: blahblah.....but can I put TWO addresses in there? Or more? Or should I change it somewhere else?

The webmaster's email field in that same area is mine, since I do most of the general problems that members have. (For really technical stuff, I send the problem on to my website's techguy, but I did not want every one that doesn't know how to post a picture bothering him with things I can handle).

Is there no way to do this? :(

Hello,

The "Contact Us" is for you to make a new e-mail account that allows ur staff to have access to that e-mail...there is no other option unless there is a modification for it..

Hmmmm.....I'm not sure that would be what I want........I am looking for a way to have all the admin recieve a copy of the email that is sent when someone clicks on the "contact us" button.

Wow......it never occurred to me that ANY software wouldn't have a way to have all the admin notified at once. What if that one "notified" person is away for a few days?

Why not set up an email acount that recieves the emails and then add forwarding rules to that account to forward all email to all the people you want to recieve a copy?

LauraM 12-05-2006 08:55 PM

Ah, yes, that is an option I didn't think of. I suppose I will have to do that.

I just find it odd that there isn't an ability within the software to have a contact notification sent to more than one address.

actually, let me just try something on my test site. I've just had an idea :)

right, I knew there had to be a way of doing it. I've only tested with 2 and 3 addresses though. It might not work with more than that.

In your Contact Us Link field in the vBOptions > Site Name/URL/Contact Us Details
Put........
Code:

mailto:user1@domain.ext, user2@domain.ext, user3@domain.ext
This is tested in FF1.5 and Thunderbird as the mail client.

Okay, I set it up as your directed, and I got my test email. The other person I sent it to is not online yet, so I will report back after I talk to her.

*keeping fingers crossed*

Unfortunately, that did not work. Two problems with it, at least on my end. Using the mailto: set up would ONLY send the email to the FIRST address. I reversed the order of the addresses (I have two I want to use) and each time, it would only send an email to the first address, the one right next to the "mailto:" part. It never sent it to the one after the comma and space.

Secondly, it says in the Adminpanel that if I DON'T use the php setup, then non-members cannot use this feature. I do want non-members to be able to use it for log in problems and various other reasons. It gets used a lot by non-members (or those having log in problems).

Does anyone else have any ideas? If I set up central email account that will forward to several other address as mentioned above, can I still use the php configuration? How do I change the email that THAT goes to to make it point to the new central email?
