Action based on user profile entry

I want to check the number of posts a user has whenever they try and add an entry to a profile field and based on a preset number of posts display a message stating they have to have x amount of posts before being able to use the profile field. Any thoughts?

Maybe a conditional for the memberoptions can work.

Editing a special field is only allowed if the condition is true
