Dealing with a Digg?
 

Im sure many of you have experienced getting Dugg, whether it be an article or informative forum post.

One of my forums got Dugg recently and was sat on the frontpage for a while, went from 400 guests to over 2000 in a matter of minutes.

The serverload never went above 3.00 and although the site had a lag of about 8seconds it didnt kill it completely.

I've seen methods of htaccess redirection for wordpress that will redirect digg users to a static page, stopping the mysql overload.

Just wondering what methods you guys use for vbulletin? Do you just wait it out or have measures in place to deal with the sudden traffic surge?

There's really not a lot you can do with vBulletin short of copying the HTML and doing what wordpress does by manually creating a static page and redirecting it via .htaccess.

I had a site that got slashdotted a few years back, and the experience was quite awful.

What's wrong with it, other than loosing bandwidth? You could get lots of members that way!

I think it is found that most digg users do not join the website. Though it has not happend to me.
