Newbie Question

We just purchased the vBulletin software for use on a nonprofit site devoted to promote nonviolence among kids (www.tkf.org). We are interested in developing a forum that will appeal to young kids aged 8-14.

We have seen some of the games that are available but I'm confused on what add on to use, where I can get them and how much the games cost. Is there an easy way to see a comparison between systems like V3arcade and ipProArcade? What are the strengths of one vs. the other? Are there others that we should consider? What should we look for?

What other add on features do you think kids would like?

I appreciate any input you could provide.

Thanks!

Wrong forum, but sooner or later someone will move it :P

I would suggest to provide more info on your site buddy. Arcades are great addons to a forum, but sometimes they use more bandwith than shared hostings can handle. I'd recommend at least a VPS or a dedicated server to run an arcade on your site.

I've tried both v3 and ibpro, and i'll take ibpro.

Good Luck :) .

I ran an arcade using shared hosting from Site5, never had any problems :) If your site is going to have a LOT of members on at one time, you should consider Tacama's advice, but if you're just starting out I don't see why shared hosting would be a problem.

I reccomend v3 arcade, if you register on their site, they have a system that will automatically add the games to your site. Although, i much rather prefer ibpro's layout.

You have a point here... I average 300 users online :P. I of course had to move asap to a dedicated server and everything is running smoothly right now. I think that tkf's forum's concept pretends to atract lots of kids, who knows one who doesn't love video games :p?

By the way, I also like ibpro because of the layout.

Regards ;)

Do you know which section of the forum I should post these types of questions to?

In response to the various replies:

We would like to have an arcade set up that kids would want to visit. While they are there and in connection with presentations we give at local schools we would alos like to sneak in discussions about nonviolence. We intend to facilitate discussions with teachers and their students through our forum.

We would want any type of nonviolent game that kids would like.

As for the server load, is there a general limit on how many people could be on the server before the load time becomes to unbearable? 20, 50, 100, 300 or more? Would the forum itself and the games need a seperate server than the exisiting webpage or should the arcade itself be on a stand alone machine?

Thanks again for your help! :D
