Is there a way to have a default avatar on all users until they add their own?

On our forum we have a lot of users but we would like them all to have avatars. Basically we want to give each user a default avatar until they turn off the avatar or add their own avatar. Is there something out there that does it already? We are using 3.6.x

Maybe there is a way...

While I was searching the database of my forum, I realised that there is a field in the "user" table, called "avatarid", that by default has the value of "0". If you alter the table definition and alter this default value for the avatar ID that you want, maybe you have your problem solved...
