A question about child styles

If I base a stlye of an existing style, and then change a template within that child stlye, will it also change the template of the parent stlye?

For example, if I wanted to change the STANDARD_REDIRECT template in the child stlye to add a picture, would it also add the picture to the parent style's redirect screen?
