Why newsletter hacks?

Hi, am about to send out newsletter to my 1000 + sithe members, and am planing to use the admin mail function (+ an unsubscriptions hack), but now i have noticed that there are a lot of newsletter hacks out there, what is the reason for that? is the Admin mail function a bad ide?

I only need planetext pluss the username of the users.
