Godaddy says the problem is VBULLETIN, PLEASE HELP.
Okay I am having problems with my godaddy shared hosting and called them up and asked them why is it running so slow after 15 minutes on the phone they had told me that it is running slow because of this forum software. They told me that the forum software is what is making it run slow.
I had asked them if a virtual dedicated server would make it fast and they told me that it may, but they are not sure. I then asked if I could test it to see if it would run fast on it, but they said no. Please what do I do know. I think vbulletin should contact godaddy as they are saying the the forum software is why it is slow and that they also said that this php is very hackable(what does that have to do with speed?) I don't know what to do now, any help is greatly appreciated |
I really don't think it will be your vBulletin unless you have a medium to large sized forum as these generally don't run too well on shared hosting.
Personally I've been using shared hosting for over three years (changed providers in summer after a big problem with my original host but still to another shared hosting account with another provider) and have around 60,000 posts with a low average users online count. However, I have heard a lot of bad reports about godaddy hosting, so it might be worth looking into another provider. Out of curiosity, what are your current site stats (from the forumhome page) and average users online? Also, if you are on linux hosting then on your admincp index page you will have 3 server load averages figures. They will look something like 3.39 4.18 4.27 If you could also post them it would be appreciated. If you cannot find them (they are next to the number of users online) then you are probably on windows hosting so they won't show up. |
As Kerry-Anne said, the size of your forum is key here. If you have a big board on cheap hosting, it doesn't matter what forum software you run, it will be slow.
Other factors are how, exactly, your shared host is set up. Which PHP version, what webserver, etc, etc. There are a ton of factors that can lead to slow performance, and imo vBulletin being the cause is way, way down on the bottom of that list. Quote:

If I were you I'd look for another host, I've yet to see anything good about GoDaddy. There are plenty of hosts for just a few £($) a month.

I had the exact same problem with them, slow, unresponsive servers on godaddy and they gave me the same lame excuse. Eventually I got tired of them an moved hosts and I am glad to say my problems all went away and I am much happier with my current host.

I'm on HostWW.com and LOVE it. They've been really helpful in both setting up and maintaining my vBulletin.

DITTO on Hostww.net. They are fantastic!

Yes, I agree. ASmallOrange.com is who I am with now. Big improvement. =) Their control panel even marvels the one at godaddy, its great.
