How do big boards become big boards?

My site has been up almost a year and it has grown VERY slowly. My users are loyal, but few.

Should I look into some SEO mods to help the site grow via search engine indexing?

What are some useful, healthy ways to promote a forum? Should I pay for advertizing somewhere?

Seems the problem is generating interest, I know that even I myself rarely sign up at a forum that I have no vested interest in...

Any tips are appreciated!

Well, I guess the best thing to do is find some ways to submit into search engins and also if your wiling to spend money to advertise then you should go ahead and do so. I currently sell adspace so if your intersted just let me know. I know of a forum that is dedicated to growing forums and giving tips and such. Just PM me and ill give you the link.
