Creating $Variables

Ok so im wondering how i go about creating $variables.

For instance, i have a new form on NEWTHREAD, that allows the user to input some extra data that will be displayed on SHOWTHREAD.

For instance i have textboxes, and radio buttons plus a drop downbox.

Names:
TextBoxes
Text1-value=$var1, Text2-value=$var2, Text3-value=$var3

Radio Buttons
RGSSL-value=yes or no

Drop Down Box Options
Windows
Unix
Solaris
Linux

So now i want to store the values of those boxes in the database ( i need some tables i know... i dont know exactly what to use for that either)
And then i want to put the values on showthread, by using $var1, $var2, $var3, $dropdown, to display the values of the stored variables.

Is there a walkthrough or tutorial that will show in detail how to do this?

I'm not sure if there is a tutorial on this - it does involve getting your feet wet in terms of Plugins and Thread Datamanager. I will try to post an tutorial tomorrow on how to do this. :)

Ya i know it isnt as simple as calling a template, i think ive got the basics of that one down, but there is quite a bit involved in this isnt there?!

One hack im working on is from scratch, so i should be able to follow a tutorial to easily achieve whatever is in the tutorial..... another hack im working on is fully coded, and i want to add new fields to it, so it would require me to find all the right places to add more code to make new fields work with the existing ones.

will there be a tutorial coming?

If anyone knows how to do this, would someone PLEASE tell me.

I really want to learn how to do this.

13,000 active members, Thousands of hacks/programmers, and no one can show me how to do this?
