How to stop the bots from invading?

My forum is here: www.svtsnake.com

It has grown to a relative size now, where the bots have began invading my site on almost a daily basis. We use e-mail verification but do not use GD because I cannot figure out how to install it on my FreeBSD box. :surprised:

Is there any other preventive measures we can take for those spamming bots?
