Well you are always going to have to make due for your changes, either accecpt what you have and live with it or make better note of what you are doing.

I've been doing the vBulletin thing for a long time now, 2002 to be exact... I used to actually have to modify code in the files between versions, There was no plugins. At one point in time an installer file was a dream and hardly anyone did them. We had to read instructions, upload files, make 10-40 changes to differnt files, run sql queries manually, add templates manually.

Sorry for the rant, you guys have it easy now, upload a file and blamo.

I'd wait for 3.6.1 and make the move and settle on that for awhile.

ohh i completly understand. i was just curous how long a version usauly lasts before they rewrite everything. i came in right at the end of 3.5. so it lasted a few months ... 3.6 last a few years?

3.6 isn't that big of a change from 3.5.x - if you look a lot of the 3.5 hacks and mods work fine in 3.6 with no modifications. I'd say just document all your changes and then upgrade asap.

Have to say the plugin system has been superb - I started modding on a 2.3 board and like Zachery said most mods took quite a lot of work to get working. What I can now "plug in" to a 3.5+ forum with a couple of clicks is astonishing - I'd almost (and only almost!) say it is too easy as quite often you aren't really aware of what you are adding to your forum.

I'm hoping the next major release will be an all new all singing and all dancing version 4 - I suspect that will be more like trying to upgrade from a heavily mod and hacked 2.x forum to a 3.5+.

Saying that at the rate Jelsoft are incorporating new features perhaps version 4 will no longer need hacks and mods..... oh all right of course it will! :D
