I have searched high and low - prevent brand new users from starting a new thread

I have had an influx of garbage spam lately and want to prevent "drive-by" spammers, is there a way to prevent new users from starting new threads or posting for X amount of time?

thanks in advance

You can moderate new members its in the usergroup options.

Heres how i solved my spam problem at first.

1. Create new usergroup, give it all the default permissions the registered user group has now.

2. Setup a promotion to mvoe all users who have either X number of posts or registered X number of days to move to that group.

3. change the registered usergroup to moderate all posts made by this group. This will still let them post, and then a moderator/admin has to review them before they are accepted to the site.

Just one solution of many you can take.

any other solutuions? I don't want to alter my 78000 members user group

something as simple as "new users can't post for 2 days"

The easiest way is still to set up a new usergroup for your existing members. It's very easy to do.

Make it a copy of your existing registered usergroup.

Move all existing members into it.

Modify the registered user group so that it has no posting permissions.

Set up a promotion that promotes users from the registered usergroup to your new usergroup based on being a member for two days.

I've done this with more than 78,000 members. Piece of cake.

btw... this spam problem is hitting all vB boards it seems. It's hitting all of my boards. I've read a lot of complaints from others about it.

It seems to be automated some how - even with image verification - I guess I will have to give this a go, thanks and if anyone else has a new hack please keep this in mind

thx all

Here is a mod I use.

Works good. No one can post images or links if under 15 posts.

I did this but for some reason the new usergroup ("Members") who used to be "Registered Users" cannot view my Homepage, but they can view the forums and everything (posting, etc) works fine.

I did the same thing for a smaller Usergroup who has "Registered User" as one of their Additional Usergroups and they can see the Home page with no problem.

How can I assign the newly created "Members" Usergroup to have "Registered User" as an additional usergroup without doing each user/member seperately like I did with the smaller Usergroup?

Please help. Thanks in advance.
