Confused Noob!!!

good day ladies and gentleman,

ok let me start off by saying congratulation to vb.org staff for an outstanding job in providing us with the best community board out there with user friendly functions and easy controls.:)

Now i'm confused with the latest updates with vb now, i see 3.5.5 and the newest 3.6.0.I'm planning to upgrade but i currently have .5.4 do i go straight to .6.0 or .5.5

i know that sounds stupid but want to be sure and i don't want to have to upgrade again.

thanks in advance

pb

Really it depends on what you want yourself.

If you want the new features included in 3.6 then upgrade to 3.6.0, otherwise upgrade to 3.5.5

Upgrading to 3.6.0 will require quite a lot of template reverts, so if you have a custom style which involves a lot of template edits, then these will be lost as a good number of the new features will not work without the templates being reverted. Also, some modifications will not work correctly or at all on 3.6.0 so you should check in the release threads to see if they work on 3.6.0 before upgrading if these are vital to your site.

another confused noob... so if we have 3.5.4 site that has many hacks what do we do? how do we start clean w/ 3.6? i dont mind hacking my 3.6 over but will there be old 3.5.4 hacks haunting me after the upgrade causing future problems? or should i uninstall all them first? sorry if these are stupid questions.

The way I did the upgrade was to disable all my plugins, do the upgrade then enable them again one at a time testing in between for errors on my site. If one caused an error, I uninstalled it.

Quite a lot of them do work, so uninstalling them to install them again is really the long way round. It's always best to check the modification threads to see if anyone is reporting any problems with it on 3.6 or if anyone has it working successfully.

i use cmps, photopost gallery and classifieds. how does that factor into upgrading? another question is it possible to take a 3.5.4 database and move it into a new clean 3.6 install on another server?
