Template Chop Shops - do they exist!?!?!
Hello. I am a vb noob and need help or a point in the right direction. PLEASE!
We've got vb 3.5.4 up and running and have installed a few mod's no trouble. We're struggling to find information on how (or if) we can 'cut up' the working componants of vb and stick them into another xhtml website we've created. For example we may want to use the polling feature, or the ibproarcade gaming mod, or the threads and display only those componants on the appropriate layers on our pages. Of course we want users to be able to interact with these componants just as they would in a vanilla vb setup. This seems to be a step beyond template/style changes? And CMS/portal mods don't quite cut the mustard either?
Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks Stu |
No cutting and pasting. It's going to take some coding knowledge of php.

I have some knowledge of php (having started learning it a month ago). I'm a network guy, but can read enough code to follow my nose and stick things together.
Basically with this, I know what I want to achieve, but have no idea how to begin doing this or even what I should be looking at. Is there a term for doing this kind of thing? Are there articles on how to do it already? What specifically should I be looking for or learning about to actually accomplish this? Thanks v much!! |
yea there are some hack guides in the programming section. Search for hack guides and a few will come up. But if you just want to change phrases then it shouldnt be too difficult. I would get a program like dreamweaver (just for searc feature) or something like ultraedit. This the plugin you downloaded you can then go an search for the phrase you are looking for within the folder. If you find it then change it and re upload it. Thats why i like ultraedit, you can add an ftp and change files from there and when you save it will upload it for you so you can just go check out those changes. Im sure there are other ways, but i always just use the search feature, and then find all. In ultraedit they have it too, but its just not as good.
