UTF-8 encoding...

Hello,

Is it possible to change the encoding to UTF-8 without any problems?
Like I see vbulletin is encoded into ISO-8859-1. I would like to change that into UTF-8.

Is it enough to change the file "vbulletin-languagec.xml" to get correct letters or could appear other problems through the setup on UTF-8?

Could there be problems with hacks and other things using UTF-8 and not the standard ISO-8859-1?

About vBulletin:
Do you want to change the encoding of an existing board, or are you planning to setup a new board?

About Modifications:
I doubt many modifications are specifically designed to use other encodings, but they might work out of the box.

I don`t have a vbulletin yet so this would be a new board to setup.
I know that there could be problems with some letters when you change an existing board later to UTF-8 ...

That´s also the reason why I want to change it at the beginning.

The main reason is, that I need the serach engine to work with japanese letters, and this is only possible when the board is setup at UTF-8.

So what I have to edit when I want to run vbuelltin in UTF-8? Also other files than "vbulletin-languagec.xml" ?

And you think that most hacks should work with UTF-8 without any problems? That´s good to hear... you know maybe any exceptions for it?

Your best option would be to look at the Chinese version of vBulletin from www.vBulletin-Chinese.com as the encoding is the same. As for modifications, I have no idea how they would work, so a bit of trial and error might be involved.

I didn't say i think most would work. But i have hardly ever seen any members reporting bugs with hacks with foreign characters. If that means most will work, i don't know, sorry.

Chinese version of vbulletin isn?t a possibility for me because I don?t understand it.

Hmm OK, but just want to know if it is POSSIBLE and if the board will also run smoothly with UTF-8. Don?t need any instructions for it yet^^

An other short question:

Can I download any available language packs independ from where I have bought the license?

Did you have to change much in the software to get it run smoothly like it do now?

Did you every get any problems through it? (hacks, modifications or other things)

BTW. amazing script Milad ( https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=118308 ). Hmm would you recommend me to install your script, or isn?t it necessary when you setup a new board?

Not much

- You need to change encoding into utf-8
- Go to vBulletin Options -> Censorship Options -> Blank Character Stripper, empty its value and click save.

And every thing will go smooth
For the two bytes charecters we need to make options (like title length) = 2 * X (In arabic عدد زوجي) (May be duplicated).

For my script it is for forums (already installed and running) that want to convert into utf-8 to get advantges of AJAX.

When you setup a new board do only the changes above and you will be very good.

Nothing is needed else.
