The AUTOMERGE system is corrupt!!!!!!

It's irritating the hell out of me, is it really necessary?

Recently, I started a thread for help, got a solution and posted a message saying 'Thanks'. Then, I encounter a problem a day later, and post the problem I am having below my previous post, and it got automerged with the 'Thanks' message meaning that people who read my 'Thanks' message won't be aware of my new problem because the thread will show up as read instead of unread!!!!!

On such a large forum a good and reliable 'read and unread' system is absolutely essential and the auto-merge system does nothing but mess it up!!

Can anyone explain how this system at all improves user experience around here?

Well it does what it suppose to be doing: in certain forums merge posts if the same user post twice in a row within 24 hours to avoid users bumping a thread.

This feature have been discussed many times before and has as many in favour as there are against it. For the time being there are no plans to change this.

I love it, I remember when I used to see the same thread sticking to the top of the forum; had something like 6 posts all by the same guy bumping within the timespan of 10 minutes. I actually had some guy yesterday PM me asking if I could bump his thread because whenever he tried he automerged, lol.:cross-eyed:

If you have a new problem then you should start a new thread. :)

If your posts are automerged, it still generates the email to users who have subscribed to the thread using instant email notification too.

Are you talking about the hack "Prevent Doubleposting" from Xenon? If yes, i've activated the bump feature.
