Common template - header

As we all know the existing code in the common templates - header reads like this...

It is my userstanding that we can simply overright everything with our own code to create a functional header. Is the correct? and being such a newbie it seems like if i were to just erase the above and replace with my own code - some of the good stuff above would be missing?

I'm just trying to figure out what a am going first before leaping in.

You can replace everything inbetween the two logo comments. The bottom lines

need to stay intact otherwise your site will not function correctly, and you will have major style issues

is it possible to utilize php "included" within here to reference a few templates that I have already created. And if so, would the format for the code be the same as in a traditional .php file>

No, you cannot put php code in your header template.

You will need to create some plugins to do that.

one last quick question on headers. is it possible to "turn-off" the header graphic and just have the info inluded in your header template shown?

Yes, the code

<a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>

refers to the logo in the header and makes it a link. You can remove either all of this, or the image section, or move it around a bit.

Basically as long as you don't touch the two lines highlighted earlier then you can do what you want with it in html.
