What does $forumhome_markread_script do that ordinary markread does not?

Just curiosity really. I'm sure it does something other than marking forums read, especially since forumhome reloads a lot faster using markread without it with the special forumhome script commented out.

Question is, what is it doing? On the basis that maybe I should put it back. :p
