Secure registration?

i'd lke to offer registration on one of my forums to a distinct group of people.

I'd like either a "invite-style" system where one needs an invite in order to register to the forum or a system in which a new registrant has to answer specific questions properly in order to register.

I've searched but found nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
