SMTP Linux

Does VB work with SMTP on a linux box?

1) phpbb installed on a dedicated server... smtp turned on send mail to email address off of server WORKS!!

2) VB installed on same server... smtp turned on send mail to email address off of server DOES NOT WORK!!! (If I send it to an email address on the server it goes through)

Vb.com says that it is a server problem... that's fine, but why does phpbb's smtp work then?

ANyone?
