Append threads, not merge threads

Quite often on my forum we get members starting a thread about the same subject and each thread will get a few responses before a mod notices.

At that point merging the threads results in a messy hard to follow thread as the merge functions orders them by date and time.

What I would like to be able to do is just append one thread to another.
