Mark individual threads "read" (not entire forum areas)

Hi,

I might be totally missing this if it already exists in vB or as a mod here but I haven't found it if it does exist.

I'd like to be able to select individual threads and click "Mark Read" for just those chosen.

Already exist? Thanks for any help.

<a href="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=101101" target="_blank">https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=101101</a>

is this what you are looking for, just been reading it and like the idea.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the pointer to that thread. I've read through it and some similar things but those are to mark forums read. I want something whereby I can click "new posts" and from that screen, choose a single or multiple posts to mark read, rather than all of a forum or having to read them.

Hope that clarifies a bit.

I'm still looking for a solution to this.

Anyone willing to help or know of a solution?

Would a dancing banana help??

Yeah, maybe not so much. Ah well.. anyone?

As far as I know there is nothing to mark one post, or even one thread read.
There is only Mark This Forum Read under Forum Tools, and Mark Forums Read under Quick Links

sorry

Yeah, I've been searching since I first posted this and the closest is a promised working version of a paid hack on another site. I'd be willing to go that route if it were necessary.

I'm hoping someone will find this a useful enough request to toss it together - or give some indication on how I might do so myself (with my woeful and pathetic ability, yeah right). :)

Anyway, I'm still looking for a solution here if anyone's of a mind.

I am also looking for this! Can you share if you find a paid hack version as well?
I can't believe this does not exist as default in vbulletin. After you hit new posts it only makes sense to check off the irrelevant posts and choose 'mark as read' or am i just talking crazy here?

No brother, you are not talkin crazy in my book.

This business of the system automatically marking chunks of posts read as soon as I display them is like a runaway train!

...especially when there is likewise no pure date-range search, without requiring either a username or some keyword (thereby "dumbing down" from a full date-range search of ALL posts).

I may need to view a post n times b4 I decide to mark it read. I don't like it at all that that option is not available on the Forum Flagship of the Web (vb! - ??).

IMHO it's an example of overautomation - perhaps to protect against server loads on bigger dbs - but I think the Admin should have that control, not hard-coded OUT of the software.

It might make sense for tech supp forums where posts have a short half life, or are strictly current events, but for a Knowledge Base application, this megasux.

I want this as a feature for vB! Meanwhile if you know of any hacks I'd sure like to know about them.

vB development team: Are you listening???

Many Thanks!
HJ
