Why does vBullitien show a significant loss of performance when there is more then one mod installed that utilizes AJAX?

AJAX in general is a resource hog from everything I have read. It doesn't matter if its vBulletin or another app. The more AJAX in use means the more resources that are being used which can have an effect of performance.

Eh, there is give and take, ajax sometimes can be less intensive, and others it can be several times more intensive. Most of the builtin ajax was very carefuly programed not to have memory leaks and not to impact on preformance heavily, some of the other code here at vB.org might not have been designed so carefully.

After making the post, I did give some thought to vBulletin using AJAX. Yes indeed, vBulletin does seem to use AJAX quite well.

Thus, what I see, from these two - quite logical - responses, and my own private experiences with AJAX and Web Services, it seems that I should take the issue of lowered performance with a mod that uses AJAX to the coder of said mod.

Is there a reccomended AJAX use guideline in relation to vBulletin?

Not really, I know that the developers spent a large ammount of time looking at both server and end user preforamnce, I'll see if I can find the docs on how to avoid end user memory leaks :)
