Restoring from the binary logs

5 months ago I quit a site and went along my way. Recently they had db problems and the new guy nuked the db by overwriting it with a 1 year old backup while trying to fix it (he didn't even backup the db before doing this)!!!

I had a backup from 5 months ago just before I quit, so I was volunteered to try to rectify the problem. The mysql binary logs on the machine are intact - has anyone ever tried to restore a forum from these??
